Collection 100 ideas.

After having the crit on the work i'd produced so far it was brought to my attention that I hadn't really decided on a target audience which meant I'd have to reconsider some of the ideas i'd already come up with. The final pieces at this stage would be a couple of posters and a book.

final pieces
I used some of the previous work i'd done and decided to create glasses and a poster because I found both would be more exciting than a book. The glasses work better because you can interact with them and they would be used as a promotional tool, given free with new glasses. The poster would be displayed in store or at bus shelters.

Book binding workshop.

Book One

 Book two

 Book Three

These are the three books I created at the book binding workshop. I found this workshop really useful because the techniques I learnt can be used in my current project and also in future projects.

Visual language; type and layout.

For the first session we had to work out a grid from a newspaper/magazine because each has a different system. We also looked at how to work out Pica's and the point size of a font so that eventually we'd be able to look at a page and guess near enough.

As a homework task we chose an article from a magazine and created our own grid for it so that we could then move the elements of the article around to design our own layouts.

We then chose our favourite layout we had created and made it larger with font choices etc so that it could be sent to print if it were a real article.

Collection 100.

As a starting point for my '100' research I had to choose one of these things to research and make a collection of 100 things about this object/person etc.

Here we were put into groups and looked at things that involved 100 to help us think about our own research.

Typogateux.

This is the cake I created for the annual typogateux compeition. Its a basic sponge cake with peppermint icing on the inside and also covering the outside. I then added silver balls for decoration.

Collection 100 - Opinions on glasses.

The message I sent out;
doing a bit of research for a university project (yes another one) and i'd like to know your opinions on glasses. for example; if you wear them do you like them? do you think guys/girls who wear them look attractive? what style do you prefer? etc!
thanks.

Sophie Wilson; big old NHS glasses are my favourite ♥
i've always wanted the need to wear them, but sadly have "quite good eye sight" alas.

Kimberly Alderson; I wear glasses, but I don't think I suit them that well :P I think both males and females suit them if you have the right ones. and I like the same style as mel, like mine and yours :)

Sally Robinson; Does this include sunglasses? If so I'm rather fond of aviators. Also for normal glasses quite thick rimmed square glasses are always a winner in my opionion on both girls and guys.

Alice Tasane; I think that if someones worn glasses all their life and thats the only way you've seen them then they suit glasses however, some styles can make some people look abit strange...

Emily Ward; I like bold glasses, its another way to interpret your personality, I do like guys in cool glasses haha. Though to some people they are an accesory to enhance thier personality i.e. Lense-less glasses.

Bethany Payne; I wear them & I don't mind them, I tend to forget I'm even wearing them most of the time. I think its more to do with a person face shape etc which determines if they suit them, not gender. I like the thinner frames & I'm not keen on brightly coloured ones :)

Emily Burns; I need glasses and personally I don't like them. They get in the way and I find them a general pain so I opt for contact lenses instead. However people say I look older when I do wear them so I guess they can add a look of maturity? And they tend to define whoever is wearing them.

Amy Wade; I don't mind glasses. I don't wear them but I think if you get the right style and shape they can really benefit a person.
the only glasses that do my head in are the people that wear the 3d glasses all the time. dress up, that's fine! not all the time. you just look silly.
and I agree with Sally about the aviators...I wear them!

Jessica Langford; When I didnt have them I really wanted them but now ive got them they arent all they cracked up to be. I dont mind them though. i wear fake ones sometimes cos I like how they look. and I think some people look better in them makes them look abit more funky if you have the right ones. I like geeky/rayban style ones and rectangular thick sided ones, with quirky patterns on sometimes haha :P I like how they make you look more intelligent and studenty haha :P

Vicky Peacock; Yeah I do like glasses big ones and rectangle ones best,
im supposedd to wear them but I broke them soo I guess my opinion is they need stronger arms :P

Jessica Laws; Yes I wear glasses, I suit them so yes, I do like wearing them. and yer I think glasses make guys look cute. and square frames :)

Sarah Egan; yes i wear glasses and i like them. can make people look more intelligent but that  can give false impressions. the use of designer glasses has made them more about fashion than a necessity.

Mel Fowler; I think some people can pull them off, I think they suit guys more, and I like the thinner square framed ones (like Gok Wan).
