Different ways of applying colour using Illustrator.

This workshop showed us how to apply colour to shapes and images in ways we maybe weren't aware of. It also showed how to create our own colour pallet and save this and how to access the pantone colours.

The straight forward way of applying colour is by clicking on the image and then clicking on the colour you would like it to be.

You can also select colours by clicking on the CMYK colour bars and moving the slider up and down.

Another way of finding the colour pallet is in the top left hand corner of the screen by clicking on a little box.

When wanting to create my own colour pallet I can delete all the other colours by making sure that no colours are being used on my canvas and clicking on 'select all unused' and then clicking on the bin icon.

This then leaves me with a pallet like the one above so I can start adding my own colours.

If you select a colour and double click on it you can change features such as the name and the CMYK sliders. It is advised that you keep the original name however.

The colour pallet can be viewed in a different way by selecting the 'small list view' option so you can see the name of it too.

A quick way of adding all the colours you have used on your workboard to the pallet is by selecting 'add used colours' and this automatically puts them into your pallet.

These are my colours added to my pallet.

To access the pantone colours you click on the 'colour books' tab and then theres various pantone books found in there and they come up in a pallet style as seen above.

If you want to save the pallet you create then you click on the 'save swatch library' tab at the bottom of the list and you can save this to a place of your choice. This is so that if you've worked on something on one computer you can take the swatch pallet with you to another computer and can transfer the correct colours to a design. Using this option saves the pallet as a separate illustrator file.

Good is...the ipod evolution - studio workshop one.

Here i've found logos that link with each of the answers I chose for the categories.

We then had to choose one thing we'd written from each of the categories that we found most relevant and which was most informed.

What makes it good?
- The way there is a clear viewable change in technology.

Who would find it good?
- Music consumers.

Who wouldn't find it good?
- Haters of the Apple brand.

What is it better than and why?
- Typical mp3 players because it has so much more to offer.

If it was a profession it would be...
- A musician.

If it was a celebrity it would be...
- Michael Jackson.

If it was a place where would it be?
- New York.

If it was an event it would be...
- Leeds Festival.

If it was a product it would be...
- A transformer.

Good is...the ipod evolution - studio workshop one.

We finally had to explain our reason for each of the statements we chose so there was an understanding of why we made that decision and maybe if it was the correct one.

What makes it good?
- The way there is a clear viewable change in technology.
Without the changes in the technology there would be nothing for me to base my project on due to the fact these changes are what creates the ipod evolution. A constant change in technology also means that there are likely to be less problems as there has been time to rectify any that came up.

Who would find it good?
- Music consumers.
With an ipod being a music player the type of audience is quite obvious in a sense. Most music consumers will own some kind of music player so they may find the ipod evolution quite interesting and especially if they own an ipod themselves.

Who wouldn't find it good?
- Haters of the Apple brand.
Consumers who have a dislike for Apple are never going to buy into the products and generally won't hold an interest in the ipod range.

What is it better than and why?
- Typical mp3 players because it has so much more to offer.
Ipods generally have a more sophisticated and 'cool' look about them. The consumer is buying into innovation rather than just a plain music player and an ipod is much more likely to last longer because you generally get what you pay for. An added bonus is that as the ipod evolution has moved on the ipods contain games, not something you usually find on your music player and is a good form of entertainment on long journeys.

If it was a profession it would be...
- A researcher.
This would be the perfect job title because for the ipod evolution to work there has had to have been a massive amount of research and experimenting gone into making the product work.

If it was a celebrity it would be...
- Michael Jackson.
He had changed both physically and musically over his life whilst he was alive and this fits with the fact the ipod has done the same thing. Each generation of the ipod tends to look different and the way your music can be accessed through the ipod also changes and in a way acts as the personality.

If it was a place where would it be?
- New York.
This place is somewhere that will constantly be changing, growing and attracting people just like the ipod evolution.

If it was an event it would be...
- Leeds Festival.
This is because this is something else that has grown and changed over the years, become different to fit with the present day and attracts a wide range of audiences.

If it was a product it would be...
- A transformer toy.
This is because it can still be recognised as a transformer even when it changes form. As the ipod changes it can also still be recognised due to key features and things such as the logo.

Good is...the ipod evolution - studio workshop one.

This workshop was designed to test how much we really know about our subject and if there was any gaps in our knowledge that we could then go and fill with further research. It also shows how far we can expand our choice of concept.

GOOD IS... THE IPOD EVOLUTION!

What makes it good?
- The way there is a clear viewable change in technology.
- Due to there being an 'evolution' there is likely to be less problems with the technology.
- It could become a collection.
- The amount of research found to back up the pro's of the technology.
- It has come so far because consumers have bought into the product and helped it evolve.

Who would find it good?
- Technology enthusiasts.
- Fans of the Apple brand.
- Music consumers.
- Drivers who want an easy way of listening to and storing their music whilst on the go.
- Researchers with an interest in evolution in general.

Who wouldn't find it good?
- Haters of the Apple brand.
- The younger generation below the age of 16.
- Consumers who prefer the cheaper end of the market.
- Haters of music in general.
- Consumers who buy with the trends rather than because of how the technology will benefit them.

What is it better than and why?
- Typical mp3 players because it has so much more to offer.
- Music phones because it doesn't limit storage space.
- Walkmans because its more advance.
- A cheap generation of mp3 players because it will last longer.
- The radio because its handheld and pocket size.

If it was a profession it would be...
- A researcher.
- A designer.
- An Apple employee.
- A musician.
- An Apple sales person.

If it was a celebrity it would be...
- Lady GaGa.
- Michael Jackson.
- Heidi Montag.
- Ed Sheeran.
- Steve Jobs.

If it was a place where would it be?
- New York.
- Dubai.
- London.
- In the mind of the technology conscious.

If it was an event it would be...
- A collectors show.
- Leeds Festival.
- Glastonbury.
- Christmas.
- A birthday.

If it was a product it would be...
- A brand new sports car.
- Transformer toy.
- Sunflower.
- A box of building blocks.
- A harddrive.

Good is... initial ideas/concepts.
