Software workshop; using colour in photoshop.

Select an area of the artboard and then choose the paint bucket tool to fill it.

When selecting a colour, if the little yellow triangle comes up in the colour pallet then the gamut is too high so this colour cannot be printed. The above green is set to RGB so this is screen mode.

This is the same green but when the settings are altered to CMYK you can see exactly what colour will be printed.

When we open an image we can select the gamut warning tool and it will show us which colours are unprintable.

If we go to the hue/saturation we can alter the colour until the grey has disappeared which will then print as seen on screen.

Another alternative is to click on adjustments and then replace colour when having an area selected and then alter the settings until the grey is gone.

If we click on 'proof colours' the colours alter to show how they will print.

To get swatches we can click on 'windows' and then 'swatches'.

If we click on the colour square we can get the printable colour.

You then have the option to add whichever colours you create to the swatches.

Another way to add swatches is to double click on the swatches pallet.

If we open the colour libraries we can access pantone colours.

Colour can be added by selecting an area and the using the paint bucket tool but obviously this way ruins the image.

Another way to add colour to the image but this time the whole image is by turning the image black and white. Then open the duotone option which means we can select any colour.

The duotone curve can be altered which changes the balance between colour and white on this particular image and i've only selected on colour so its technically monotone.

If we want more than one colour we select the duotone option so then altering the curve is altering the balance between the blue and the pink.

Again if the image is in black and white we can select a certain area and colour just this area in using the paint bucket tool.

Using the gradient tool is also another way of adding colour to images and you can choose more than one and alter the direction of the gradient.
